General Information
The major goal of the University is to promote a systematic study of business & technology programs in conjunction with the academic skills, which support them. More particularly, it seeks to provide an intellectual context to enable the conceptualization and application of information to contemporary issues in society and business with a multicultural and international perspective. To facilitate this process, it endeavors specifically to inculcate the following skills: mastering and integrating information, thinking logically and critically, communicating clearly in writing and orally, and performing quantitative functions precisely.

In addition, the University recognizes the growing importance of computer technology in modern society. Therefore, the faculty encourages students in all courses to use computers for researching topics, analyzing data, and completing projects.

The following information is for the guidance of students, particularly those who are new to American States University. The University does not endeavor to prescribe in detail what is either permitted or denied, but relies upon the balanced judgment of its students to uphold the American States University tradition of responsible citizenship. A spirit of mutual respect and helpfulness is encouraged and every effort is made to help students to develop a high degree of intellectual and emotional maturity.

American States University reserves the right at any time to make changes deemed advisible in the programs, regulations and policies, and in the fees and tution. The University also reserves the right to cancel any program or course if registration for it does not justify continuance

The tradition and principles of American States University prohibit any conduct in violation of law or out of harmony with the standards of acceptable social behavior.

Student Responsibility
In order to make logical progress toward educational goals it is crucial that the student understands degree requirements, course prerequisites, University regulations, and academic policies. The student assumes the responsibility to read, understand, and follow the regulations included in the Bulletin. The student is also responsible for official posted notices describing registration procedures, deadlines, and changes in programs, policies, and regulations.

To benefit fully from classes at American States University the student must attend classes regularly and participate actively in classroom discussion. Expression of new ideas and understanding of the concepts presented in class are vital to the educational process. Students are encouraged to ask questions both in class and in private discussions with faculty. Questions about the student's programs should be directed to the Director of the appropriate Department, the Registrar, or the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

Participation in student activities and student life offers the student opportunities for personal growth and skill development. The faculty and staff of American States University are eager to assist each student meet his or her goals.


American States University's Right to Make Changes
Although the information in the Bulletin is current at the time of its publication, American States University reserves the right to add, delete, or change degree programs, requirements, courses, schedules, policies, tuition, fees, and other information listed, without notice or obligation. Notices of changes are posted and distributed on campus.
